This is a session that’s very close to my heart. Dentyn is my husband’s youngest brother; he’s marrying the beautiful Jesenia this coming Friday.
Right off the bat, I can probably guess one of the first thoughts that will go through your head. Wow. They look so young.
If that’s what you’re thinking, then you’re right. They are young. Their entire lives ahead of them to spend together. We talked a lot about this during their engagement session. Dustyn and I also got married really young. Our wedding day was exactly a month to the day before my nineteenth birthday. Yes, you read that correctly. I was 18 when I got married. I could always see the questions behind people’s eyes. Why on earth do two people who are so young get married? Is that the right decision? For me it was, it absolutely was. My answer was always, “When you know, you know. Why spend years waiting to get married until we were the “appropriate” age?” We’ve been happily married for seven years now.
I advised Dentyn and Jesenia that the questioning wouldn’t stop at any magical age. I still see people doing the math when I tell them I am 26 and we have been married for over seven years. There’s a lot about young love that doesn’t make sense. I can only hope Dentyn and Jesenia have a happy, beautiful marriage like ours. That they’re able to continue to grow together. That the giddiness they feel for one another never fades. That the questions people want to ask, but seldom will, never bothers them. That they’ll be upfront and honest about their love for one another.
I cannot wait to photograph your wedding this weekend. I love you two.
