Britney and Jake were referred to me by Gloria and Evan, two of my recent wedding clients. When Britney called me a year ago, I was beyond flattered that I was referred to her because I hadn’t even photographed Gloria and Evan’s engagement photos yet. Britney and I had several phone conversations since she and Jake were attending school in New Mexico. I met them for the very first time the morning of their drizzly engagement session. Since that day, I’ve had nothing but a great time getting to know them. Over the last year, these have been a few of my favorite things that have happened:
- I will never forget Britney and Jake accidentally locking their car keys in the car during the engagement session. We were in the middle of the session and they were about to change clothes. The car door wouldn’t open. We could not see the keys in the ignition, so we could only assume they were in the trunk. We called a repairman and had to give him detailed instructions for where to find us because we were located next to a decrepit, old warehouse building. I was afraid he would think we were going mug him when he caught a glimpse of the location and turn around. Thankfully, he did not and they quickly got the keys back within their grip. The engagement session resumed and went on as usual. There’s nothing like bonding over keys locked in the car.
- Britney messaged me after their engagement session to talk about cameras. She and Jake were looking to get a new camera so he could expand his hobby. Britney messaged me and asked for recommendations for ways to help Jake learn and improve his technical camera skills. She wanted to get something for his birthday to surprise him. I wrote back and gave her some suggestions. Only then did we realize that maybe it wouldn’t be a surprise because Jake was on the Facebook message and had access to read the whole conversation.
- Britney came back to Texas for a little while before the wedding to spend quality time with her parents. During this time, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to have lunch or dinner with Gloria and Britney. We would sit and talk for hours, not realizing how much time had passed by. My favorite dinner was the night before Britney’s bachelorette party. We met at Mandola‘s in the Triangle and enjoyed great dinners, yummy dessert, and talked so much about Britney’s upcoming wedding. Such a perfect evening!

The First Baptist Church in Marble Falls, TX where Britney and Jake were married was absolutely gorgeous.
Britney’s dress was a gorgeous mixture of bead work and lace.
Britney’s Grandmother helped her put on her pearls and this embrace followed. It’s probably one of my favorite pictures of the whole day. I want a photograph like this of my Grandma and me.
Jake and Britney opted to do a first look before the ceremony so they would be able to head straight to the reception after the ceremony was complete. This was Britney’s reaction to seeing Jake walk toward her. Oh the excitement and anticipation!
Britney’s Dad nearly made me cry several times throughout the wedding day. He was choked up as he walked her down the aisle, and all the emotions came flooding back when he danced with her at the reception.
Since their first look was about letting them have some alone time to talk and see each other before the ceremony, I took them outside for a while at the reception to take advantage of the gorgeous evening light.
Ah, yummy light! I love this picture of the kiss!
These are also some of my favorites. We were rounding a corner, about to go back inside, when we saw the dock. The light was just perfect, so they headed to the dock. I would love to see these hanging as a series somewhere on a wall. LOVE them.
