Love is displayed in all types of ways. For every couple, and more so for every person, it’s completely different. The kind of love Carly and David have is beautiful and mesmerizing.
Carly mentioned she was nervous about their engagement session when we first began shooting. She feared having terrible, cheesy, overly posed photos. I assured her that we would have fun and that more than anything, their session was about them and getting some really fantastic shots. I knew that I wanted to capture how they interacted, and then make minimal adjustments from there. Man, oh man. What I learned by observing is how much David loves Carly (and of course vice versa too!).
He shows his love for her by the way he wants to protect her.
He holds her just to be closer to her.
He will be silly just to see her beautiful, perfect smile.
He loves to watch her to make sure that she’s okay.
Their love is beautiful. I had the most difficult time culling down their images. How could I not post the one of him adoringly looking down at her and the one of them them laughing and being silly? I really tried to mix things up, though I felt like I could have posted so much more. Might be puttin’ up a gallery to feature you guys. ;)
Carly and David, I am so excited to know you. To be a part of your engagement and upcoming wedding. Thank you for letting me observe and photograph your love. You guys are awesome!
Um, yes, look below. Do you see how he loves her? LOVE THIS!
One of my favorite images from their session is below on the left. I’m thinking gigantic wall canvas.
Seriously, could these two be any more adorable? Gosh, I love this picture…
Silly David + Corny Pose = Most Beautiful, Genuine Carly Smile
Here are a few words from Carly and David about their wedding and how they met. More to follow soon from Carly as she’s been traveling ’round the country!
How did you meet? Tell me about it – from both of your perspectives.
David – Carly and I met at the at a swing dance at the Fed on the corner of 24th and San Gabriel. I had been going for several months, and Carly was only there because a friend had dragged her there. I took note of her from the very first time I saw her. She came back the next week, and then we went our our first date.
Carly – I don’t remember David from the first dance! I was a little tipsy – my friend and I went for beers after work and it was only when I was slightly drunk that swing dancing finally seemed like a good idea. At the Fed, you dance with loads of people. It wasn’t until the next weekend at the Halloween dance that David really surprised me by asking my to dance by name (I had no idea what his name was!). What was also shocking was that David’s costume choice was a hot-pink-crushed-velvet-frilly shirt. He kept following me around after our first dance trying to get my attention, and I was rather confused because I assumed I wasn’t his type.
What’s your engagement story? Tell me all the juicy details! Groom, were you nervous? Bride, did you pick up on the surprise?
David – One year after we first set eyes on each other, we went back to the Fed for the Halloween dance dressed at Mary Poppins and Bert. I was planning on proposing that night, but I hadn’t arranged for anything fancy. I didn’t have a ring yet, and I didn’t hire a photographer, but it was perfect all the same. She had no idea it was coming, but I was still a little nervous. I kept on going over what I was going to say in my head. Lucky for me, there was a photographer working the dance, so I hailed him over before I proposed. After the proposal, we won 2nd place in the costume contest.
Carly – He’s right. I had no idea. Its funny, we had talked about marriage and he had asked questions about how the proposal “should go” – ie. “should he pick out a ring without me”. I had daydreamed about how the proposal would go – and I thought the Fed would be the most meaningful place to do it, but I never told him or anyone. He managed the proposal of my dreams without any hinting! And yes, we won 2nd place in the costume contest to top off the night. Everyone loved him as Bert. Quite an improvement over crushed pink velvet.
What have you enjoyed MOST about being engaged and planning your wedding? Include Bride and Groom input!
David – I am going to answer this one because it is a tough one. It is tough because I have not really enjoyed planning the wedding much at all. As a matter of fact, I wanted to put the planning off for as long as possible after we got engaged, which didn’t go over so well with Carly.
Planning the wedding had deepened my relationship with Carly. We have grown much closer together because planning the wedding forces us to work together. I have enjoyed planning this wedding because it has brought Carly and I closer to each other.
